The Iron Range Research Center contains one of the largest collections of genealogical and local history research materials in the Upper Midwest including but not limited to:
- census records,
- naturalization records,
- passenger arrival records,
- mining company newsletters,
- and a survey of Women in Industry taken in 1919.
Our Other Collections
The library reference book collection and archival maps, photographs, manuscripts, oral histories and microfilmed newspapers provide a gold mine of information for genealogists, historians, scholars and students.
The library reading room provides a comfortable research area for visitors. Microfilm reader printers and photocopier equipment are available for use by the public. Photocopies and print-outs are $0.25 and microfilm reader copies are $0.50.
The archives is a designated government records repository for the Taconite Tax Relief Area, and consists of city, township and county records; records of social organizations, businesses and personal papers; maps, mining records, and photographs. Archival materials are available by arrangement with the Archivist Tuesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
