"Standing on Tradition: Rag Rug Techniques"

Minnesota Discovery Center Presents:
“Standing on Tradition:  Rag Rug Techniques”
Exhibition Date: September 18 to April 13, 2013
 
The Minnesota Discovery Center is partnering with the Range Fiberarts Guild to showcase 200 rag rugs from Minnesota rag rug makers and fiber artists. We seek fiber artists and rug makers,from Minnesota, to submit up to five (5) rag rug photographs. If selected, the rag rug will be on exhibit at the Minnesota Discovery Center in Chisholm, Minnesota for 6 months.
 
 “Standing on Tradition” highlights the historical importance of rag rugs in Northeastern Minnesota and includes 13+ techniques for rag rug making from artists in Minnesota.
 
Eligibility:
Rag Rug Makers and Fiber artists working in traditional and/or contemporary styles from Minnesota, who have made or will be making rag rugs. We are looking for a diverse number of techniques including: weaving, rug hooking, twine, hooked/locker hooking, crochet, knit, sheared, shag, braid, prodded, round weaving, tooth brush, wagon wheel, Amish knot, and penny rugs. If your technique is not listed here, we’d especially like to see it.
 
Submission Guideline:
1.       Mail up to five (5) photographs with clear descriptions to Mai Vang, Curator. Photos will not be returned.

2.       Due: May 15, 2012; all documents and photographs
3.       Notified by June 1, 2012 of decision.

Minnesota Discovery Center is not responsible for loss or damage of works while in transit. The Minnesota Discovery Center reserves the right to photograph accepted works for use on the Museum website and in any advertising or collateral associated with the exhibition.
